Casting Call for “Darkest Minds”
Fox is working on an adaptation of “The Darkest Minds,” the first book in the YA trilogy written by Alexandra Bracken. There is a casting call out for various small roles in the teen sci-fi flick. “The Darkest Minds,” is filming in the Atlanta area this spring and is seeking local talent who would like to work as paid extras on the project. Please see below for all the details and role descriptions. Atlanta’s Rose Locke Casting is now accepting submissions from talent that is local to the Atlanta area only. The movie will be needing quite a few kids and there is currently a casting call out for kids as well as adults to play soldiers.
The movie is a sci-fi thriller about a teen girl living in a post-apocalyptic world. In the story, a disease kills most of the kids and must deal with the deaths of 98% of America’s children. The 2% of the children that survive find that they are developing superpowers. The government, in fear of the super-powered kids decides to round up and snatch the kids away from their families, eventually placing the children into internment camps. Amandla Stenberg, best known for her role as Rue in The Hunger Games series is set to star in the sci-fi thriller as Ruby. Also cast in “The Darkest Minds” are Harris Dickinson as Liam, Skylan Brooks as Chubs and Miya Cech plays Suzume. “Darkest Minds” is a book trilogy and the first book focuses on Ruby Daly, a 16-year-old girl who develops telekinetic powers. Ruby Daly is being played by Amandla Stenberg, a teen girl who escapes the camps and joins another group of teens that are also on the run.
“The Darkest Minds,” is being directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson with Chad Hodge writing the script. Jennifer Yuh Nelson, best known for directing the “Kung Fu Panda” movies will be making her live-action directorial debut with “The Darkest Minds.” The movie is being produced by Shawn Levy and his 21 Laps production company.
IMDB provides a description of the story – Ruby Daly never thought she would survive the horrible plague that killed 98% of America’s children… but she did. Those who survived the disease were left with unnatural powers that could only be described by a color: the greens (super intelligent), the blues (telekinesis), the yellows (control over electricity), the oranges (power over the mind), and the reds (control fire). Ruby is an orange, a dangerous one. She is sent to Thurmond, a camp for kids like her. She is miserable there and scared of what happened to the others like her. She hides under the facade that she is a green and watched as those like her are taken away. She escapes this horrible place with the help of the children’s league, and from there her life changes forever.
