New York City Auditions for Equity Principals “Measure for Measure” – Opera House Arts in Stonington, ME

“I am looking to the Southern Gothic movement in literature to illuminate this complex and morally profound play. I am particularly inspired by Flannery O’Connor’s brand of heretical Catholicism. I am also interested in the sound of certain Southern dialects that closely approach the musicality of Elizabethan English. And I imagine that there is a small town somewhere in the Southern US in the first half of the 20th Century where the law seems like the whole world, and where it will require exceptional bravery, honesty and yes, grace, to love one’s neighbor as oneself.”
Theatre’s casting note: “This is very much an ensemble – and highly physical – show, and all actors will double.”

Probable doubling:
Isabella/Pompey
Duke
Angelo/Overdone
Marianna/Elbow/Abhorson
Claudio/Escalus
Lucio/Ensemble
Provost/Ensemble
