I am currently looking to cast a short one act play called The Land of the Purple People.
The play deals with the issues of mother-son relationships and equality. It is a trip to an alternate universe where the people are purple and gender doesn’t exist. A more formal description: “A mother, who is strongly opposed to and disturbed by her son’s lifestyle realization, is thrust into a new world and begins a journey of understanding, self discovery, and compassion that, in the end, brings her home.”
We are looking for a cast of 10 characters – only 2 of those roles are gender specific – that can fit together to form a tight ensemble.
Riley – An average teenage boy
Jane – A conservative mide-late forty something mother
Dole – A whimsical, ageless, & genderless magical being; a purple person
Sam – A genderless college senior; a purple person
Taylor – A genderless 20 something college grad; a purple person
Ky – A genderless college freshman; a purple person & Sam’s younger sibling
Victoria – One of the rulers of the Checkered People (typically female)
Thomas – The head ruler of the Checkered People (typically male)
Jia – One of the co-rulers of the Purple People; genderless
Darius – One of the co-rulers of the Purple People; genderless
We’re looking to cast all roles in the age range of 19 – 30.
A 1 minute monologue is preferred but sides for a cold read will be available.
Callbacks will be the same night.
Rehearsals will begin the end of October.
Production Dates: November 24,26,27 @ 8pm @ the Manhattan Theatre Source (177 MacDougal Street)

The audition is being held at Wagner College: 1 Campus Road Staten Island NY 10301
We’re on the 2nd floor of the Main Hall building (the one that looks like a castle) in room MH20.
