CASTING CALL – “Dolore” (age 4-6) in MADAMA BUTTERFLY

Central City Opera will hold auditions for the role of Dolore (“Trouble” or “Sorrow”), the 3-year old son of Cio-Cio San and Lt. Pinkerton, for its summer production of Madama Butterfly. Two actors are needed for this role, each will serve as understudy for the other, and both will rotate or alternate in the 14 performances of the opera June 26-August 7.

Dolore should be 4-6 years old, petite for his/her age. (Girls or boys may audition for the role.) Dolore is picked up and carried occasionally and should not weigh more than 45 lbs. They should be calm, slender, outgoing but obedient, and the ideal candidate(s) will have had previous stage experience. Blonde hair would be ideal, but is not necessary. Dolore is a silent role but is featured throughout Acts II and III, and must interact closely with Cio-Cio San and her servant, Suzuki.

Open auditions will be held in Central City at the Foundry Rehearsal Center on Sunday, May 30, starting at 1:00pm, with director Catherine Malfitano. Extensive rehearsals commence the week of June 2 through June 24; opening night is June 26 and 13 performances thereafter; final performance August 7. (See below for exact performance dates.) A more comprehensive rehearsal schedule will be available at the audition. Parent or guardian must accompany child to rehearsals/performances. There is nominal compensation.
