Open auditions for “Anne of Green Gables” | MO | Theater

Open auditions for the Clayton Community Theatre production of Anne of Green Gables(directed by Anne Ruzicka) will be held Thursday, April 8th, at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 10th, at 10:00 p.m. at the Washington University South Campus Theatre, 6501 Clayton Road. .  All parts will be cast from the open auditions.  Auditioners may attend either audition session; callbacks will be the afternoon of April 10th.

Clayton Community Theatre welcomes all interested parties to audition. No audition appointment is necessary. All parts will be cast from the open auditions. Anne of Green Gables will be performed at the Washington University South Campus Theater June 4-13, 2010, with Friday and Saturday evening and Sunday matinee performances. Rehearsals will begin the second week of April.  Tech Week will be May 24- 27th.

Plot Summary:

Aging brother and sister, Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, send to an orphanage for a boy to help on the farm.  However, a mix-up brings them 11-year-old Anne Shirley, who is full of energy and imagination.  Over the course of six years Anne wins their hearts and turns the stodgy, rural Canadian community into a bright world of “kindred spirits.”

Cast of Characters:

Anne Shirley (age 12-16) An energetic 11-year-old dreamer who is hot-headed, speaks her mind, and talks entirely too much

Marilla Cuthbert (age 56-67) A stern, older woman who likes routine and dislikes surprises.

Matthew Cuthbert (age 56-67) A strong but silent older man who quickly falls to Anne’s charms

Mrs. Rachel Lynde (age 56-67) A strict, blunt friend of Marilla’s who like neat and proper things and people.

Diana Barry (age 10-16) A schoolgirl who loves to dream and dream who becomes Anne’s “bosom friend” and enjoys many adventures with Anne.

Jane Andrews (age 10-16) A schoolgirl

Josie Pye (age 10-16) A schoolgirl

Ruby Gillis (age 10-16) A schoolgirl

Gilbert Blythe (age 12-16) A schoolboy who competes with Anne for the top student in school and for the best teaching job after school.  Also he and Anne have difficulty showing their true feelings for each other.

Moody Spurgeon McPherson (age 12-16) The son of the train station owner who is also a schoolboy.

Mrs. Barry (age 30-40) Diana’s mother who is strict and thinks all girls should be neat and proper at all times

Mrs. Spencer (age 30-40) An unorganized, very busy women who runs the orphanage.

Miss Stacey (age 19-24) School teacher who encourages her students in their education.

*Ages are connected to the age of the character being portrayed.  It does not rule out the possibility of casting actors of different ages for parts outside of their age range.

Auditioners will perform cold readings from the script, and/or work in groups with improvisation.
