The Newark-Granville Youth Symphony will conduct auditions for its 2010-11 season May 15 at Newark High School.
The following instruments will be accepted in the orchestra: violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, percussion, piano and harp. Instrumentalists currently in grades 8-11 may audition.
Audition requirements include a prepared solo comparable to the OMEA High School Class A or Class B contest list and no more than three to four minutes in length, major scales up to four sharps and four flats, and sight-reading.
To be eligible for the youth orchestra, all musicians must be members of their school band or orchestra program. If a band or orchestra program is not available at their school, this requirement will be waived.
