Auditions for Singers – Iowa – Choral ensemble

By | July 29, 2011

Una Vocis in Iowa is holding auditions for singers. Una Vocais is a choral ensemble with members from various Iowa communities. They are now going into their 7th season of performances.

Building on the musical heritage of north Iowa, the mission of Una Vocis Choral Ensemble is to cultivate and celebrate the connections between audience, singers and composers.

Auditions are open to anyone college-age or older and will be held in Mason City Iowa.

Auditions schedule for the 2011 / 2012 season:

Thursday, August 25, 5:30 PM-8:30 PM at Clear Lake United Methodist Church

Saturday, August 27, 10:00 PM-1:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church in Mason City

Sunday, August 28, 2:00 PM-5:00 PM at Clear Lake United Methodist Church

address:
Thursday, Aug. 25
5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Clear Lake United Methodist Church

Saturday, Aug. 27
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday
First Presbyterian Church in Mason City

Sunday, Aug. 28
2 to 5 p.m.
Clear Lake United Methodist Church.

Auditions are about 15 minutes in length and consist of the following:

1) You will sing a piece you have prepared. This does not need to be anything fancy. Just singing a hymn or “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” is sufficient. I just want to hear you sing something you know.

2) We will do some vocal range exercises

3) We will have you listen to some musical phrases and sing them back

4) We will have you learn a short section of a choir piece and sing it with a quartet.

Una Vocis is not a straight-tone choir, but the ability to sing with a straight tone is needed for some pieces. Throughout the audition process vocal quality and blending will be evaluated.

An accompanist is present at auditions, but you may bring your own accompanist for your prepared piece if you wish.

Anyone interested but unable to audition during the scheduled times is encouraged to contact Dennis Lee, Una Vocis artistic director, at dennis.lee@unavocis.org or 641-430-2959 after 6 p.m.
