Hi, My name is Sandy I have been married to my husband John for almost 26 years. We together have 11 biological kids. 3 years ago we decided to be super crazy and build our own house, all by ourselves, all cash, no mortgage, no subs or contractors. The crazy thing is, we only built a 1487 sq. ft. house with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. I am a sahm, my husband is an IT field engineer. We also have 4 dogs, 1 cat, 1 free range bunny, 2 hamsters and 2 birds. I am also a grandmother 2 1. My son and his wife recently moved back to our small homestead, and are now living in an unfinished 12 x 40 shed that they are finishing out themselves. I also have another son age 20 that is living in what used to be our Graceland portable tool shed, the shed was finished with A/C electrical and insulation. Recently his girlfriend/finance has moved in with him and she is from Alaska. We are planning on building on a 2,000 sq. ft. extension to include a garage, a master suite, and a huge 20×24 great room, to be able to accommodate our ever growing family. We are a fun loving family, that just wants to show the world that it is possible to achieve the American dream even if it has taken us almost 3 years to do it. The struggle is real, the mess, the chaos is real, we are just a real family. So in conclusion, we basically have 7 adults, 7 kids, 4 dogs (1 being a ginormous St. Bernard), 1 cat, 2 hamsters, 2 birds and a bunny all living under 1480 sq. ft. Still struggling to finish our house, almost all of the rooms need something done, from either the rest of the tile finished, to trim, to mudding, and paint. Did I also forget to mention that our house is totally like any other house within 50 miles of where we live. Most houses here are boring adobe, stucco, clay roof style houses, we built a total modern house, with metal siding, black metal roof, single slope pitches. We defiantly stand out.
