Description: Short film project by MFA student at Howard University. Visual and stylistic reinterpretation of a segment of the critically acclaimed Tennessee Williams play, A Streetcar Named Desire. 10-20 minutes.
Objectives of the Project: The film is part of an instructional course led by an internationally acclaimed film director and is an excellent learning experience. Selected actors will need to commit to rehearsal dates from September — November with shooting dates TBD (most likely within mid-November, early December timeframe).
Segment Description: Blanche, a destitute woman from a privileged background, is living with her sister, Stella, and her working class husband, Stanley, in their one bedroom flat. A growing animosity between Blanche and Stanley threatens Blanche’s precarious existence, especially when Stanley discovers the secrets of Blanche’s sordid past. Stella feels for her sister but is firmly allied with Stanley, with whom she is about to have a child. Blanche is convinced that the only way to save herself from the streets is to entice Stanley’s friend, Mitch, into marrying her, but she can only pull this off if he doesn’t learn the truth about her.

David Peterson – Allan Grey’s childhood friend, a homosexual man trying to survive in a rigid society without losing his identity
