Auditions are set for Batavia’s Shakespeare On Clark Summer Production
Batavia Main Street, in conjunction with All Dressed Up Costumes, and in cooperation with the Batavia Park District will continue the Shakespeare on Clark program this summer with Shakespeare’s comedy “The Merry Wives of Windsor.”
The play features a colorful cast of characters in one of Shakespeare’s most produced comedies. Sir John Falstaff, a plump knight or questionable morals, gets more than he bargains for when he simultaneously attempts to seduce two wealthy married women, in an attempt to gain a portion of their money. Upon receiving identical copies of Falstaff’s love letters, the two women Mistress Page and Mistress Ford, scheme to teach the fat knight a good lesson….with uproariously funny results!! This would be seducer, the resourceful housewives and one very jealous husband combine to create a hilarious battle of wits!!
Auditions for this production will take place on Sunday, May 15th at 1PM to 3pm, Monday May 16th at 7pm to 9pm and Saturday, May 21rd at 1pm to 3pm. The cast consist of 4 lead female roles, and 14 male roles, of all ages, and additional actors can be incorporated in the production. The auditions will consist of cold readings from the script as well as some physical improv. This is an open audition and appointments are not necessary. Rehearsals will be schedule around cast member availability. The auditions will be held in the Jester’s Courtyard of All Dressed Up Costumes, which is located on the 2nd floor of the Campana building, 901 N. Batavia Ave, (northwest corner of Fabyan Parkway and Rt. 31) in Batavia, Il.
The production will take place on Clark Island, which is in the heart of downtown Batavia, on the Fox River just south of Wilson Street. Performances are scheduled for July 29, 30 and 31, August 3, 6 and and 7 and August 12, 13, 14 at 7:00 pm on Friday and Saturday nights and 6pm on Sundays. The production is outdoors, and audience members bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets to enjoy the evening and the performance.
Shakespeare on Clark has become a seasonal favorite in the heart of downtown Batavia.
