Based on the novel, this adaptation is fast paced with a simple set and few props. The play is set in England in 1813 and requires excellent character acting, clear English accents and ability to move well. Doubled roles must be able to present two clearly different characters and a range in age. Character ages are older than traditional casting for this production.

ALL ROLES ARE AVAILABLE:
Mr. Bennet (55) – father to four daughters, kind-hearted and jovial. He uses his sarcastic wit to irritate his wife in a playful manner.
Mrs Bennet (55) – boisterous mother of four daughters, concerned about getting all of her daughters married off. She comes across as being without class and considered by some as foolish and nosey.
Elizabeth Bennet (35) – intelligent, independent, well-read and quick-witted.
Mr Darcy (40) – very wealthy, handsome, seemingly aloof, intelligent and speaks his mind. Tends to look down on his social inferiors.
Jane Bennet (35) – most beautiful of the sisters, demure, kind and sensible.
Mr Bingley/ Colonel Fitzwilliam/ Servant (40) – Bingley is best friend to Darcy, well mannered, not concerned with social class and well meaning.
Lydia Bennet/Georgiana Darcy (30) – Lydia is gossipy, self absorbed, impetuous and immature. She is the youngest of the sisters. Georgiana is the very quiet, shy younger sister to Mr Darcy.
Mary Bennet/ Charlotte Lucas (30) Mary is the middle sister and is bookish and pedantic. Charlotte is best friend to Elizabeth and a realist. She is plain and looks upon marriage as a necessity not out of love.
Kitty Bennet (25) The fourth Bennet sister. Like Lydia, she is girlishly enthralled with the soldiers.
Miss Bingley/ Mrs Gardiner (30) Bingley’s snobbish sister. Her vain attempts to garner Darcy’s attention cause Darcy to admire Elizabeth’s self-possessed character even more. Mrs Gardiner is nurturing, quiet wife to Mr Gardiner.
Mr Gardiner/ Sir William Lucas/ Mr. Collins (45) Mr. Collins: strong comedic role. A pompous, generally idiotic clergyman who stands to inherit Mr. Bennet’s property. Mr. Collins’s own social status is nothing to brag about, but he takes great pains to let everyone and anyone know that Lady Catherine de Bourgh serves as his patroness. He is the worst combination of snobbish and obsequious. Mr Gardineris the kind brother of Mrs Bennett. He is the opposite of his sister, is reasonable and grounded.
George Wickham/ Ball Guest (40) – ne’er do well soldier, with a disreputable past. Very flirtatious; a fortune and opportunity hunter.
Lady Catherine De Bourgh/ Housekeeper/ Ball Guest(55) – Lady Catherine is extremely wealthy widow mother to a shy frail daughter. She is opinionated, controlling and has a strong personality. A rich, bossy noblewoman; Mr. Collins’s patron and Darcy’s aunt. Lady Catherine epitomizes class snobbery, especially in her attempts to order the middle-class Elizabeth away from her well-bred nephew.
Ball Guest/ Officer/ Servant – any age over 20 (may be played by Stage Manager)
