New York – Auditions for ‘Cats’

White Plains – Auditions will be held at the White Plains Performing Arts Center, New York. All performers must be 18 or older.

Union and non-union performers – Casting triple threats – singers who can dance and act.

“Because of the short, intense rehearsal schedule, we are seeking real triple-threats – strong dancer/singer/actors, especially those who have done the show before. There are also roles available FOR STRONG SINGERS with minimal to no dance required.

OPEN Auditions are by appointment only
Monday, 10/17/11, 6-10 PM at WPPAC.

All roles including chorus are available, including the following roles:

Alonzo:
Male. Strong, sensual tomcat. Seeking tall, excellent dancer who sings. Good with lifts.

Bombalurina:
Female. Sexy, brassy. Seeking tall, woman with great body. Strong belt, low G to mid-range C#. Sings “Macavity”. Must dance well. Triple threat.

Bustopher Jones / Gus / Growltiger:
Male. “Opera, Theatrical Cat.” Strong tenor. Two-octave range to Bb. Transforms from elderly to young actor/opera singer in his prime. Must have strong comedic timing. Dance minimal.

Cassandra:
Female. “The striking Abyssinian” or “Siamese cat.” Long, sleek and proud. Excellent dancer with beautiful, lithe body. Tall.

Coricopat:
Male. Tantomile’s male twin. Part for an excellent dancer who sings.

Demeter:
Female. Average to tall. Sexy with great body. Sings “Macavity” with Bombalurina. Strong belt, low G to mid-range C. Excellent dancer. True triple threat.

Grizabella:
Female. “The Glamour Cat.” Actress should be able to play 40s, but all age ranges are encouraged to audition. Sings “Memory.” Excellent voice. Strong belt, low F# to Eb. Strong actress. Must be able to move well.

Jellylorum / Griddlebone:
Female, 20s-40s.The “Opera Cat.” Legit soprano, low B to high C. Must move well.

Jennyanydots:
Female, 30s-40s. “The Gumbie Cat.” Part for a character actress who taps and moves well. All body types. Low G to mid-range C#.

Mistoffelees:
Male. “The Magical, Conjuring Cat.” Short to average height. Young and playful. Role for an outstanding dancer with strong ballet. Must have excellent, solid turns.

Mungojerrie:
Male. Lovable juvenile delinquent. Role for an excellent dancer/singer (tenor) with lots of energy. Physical comedy a plus. Triple threat.

Munkustrap:
Male. Narrator. Role for a strapping man with good body and commanding presence. Average height to tall. Baritone with two-octave range up to G. Must move well. Dance a plus.

Old Deuteronomy:
Male. Regal. Gentle, large, robust. Strong baritone with range to G. Dance minimal to none.

Plato / Macavity:
Male. Strong, Sexy athletic. Tall and strapping. Performer must be able to play the villain (Macavity). Excellent dancer who is good with lifts. Tumbling a plus.

Pouncival:
Male. The innocent but playful young male kitten. Short. Excellent dancer.

Rum Tum Tugger:
Male. “Rock ‘n’ roll” cat. All types from young Elvis to David Lee Roth to Freddy Mercury etc. Must move well. Bring a rock song to audition.

Rumpleteazer:
Female. Mungojerrie’s partner in crime. Short and spunky. Part for an excellent dancer/singer with lots of energy. Acrobatics a plus, but not necessary. Triple threat.

Sillabub:
Female. The innocent young female kitten. Childlike. Part for a petite dancer/singer. Must sing well. Should have a pure innocent vocal quality. Sings part of “Memory.”

Skimbleshanks:
Male. “The Railway Cat.” Part for a quirky character actor plus singer/dancer. Physical comedy a plus. Tenor. Triple threat.

Tantomile:
Female. Coricopat’s female twin. Part for an excellent dancer who sings.

Tumblebrutus:
Male. Average to short in height. Part for an excellent dancer who sings. Great lifter and tumbler.

Victoria:
Female. “The White Cat.” Part for an outstanding, petite dancer with excellent ballet training and strong/high extension. Should be able to play a combination of young and sexy. Singing a plus, but not necessary.

Theatre’s statement: “NON-TRADITIONAL CASTING IS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED. ALL ETHNIC TYPES WELCOME.”

Include name, phone #, approximate time you’d like to audition and union status. Equity Members without appointments will be seen throughout the audition day, as time permits.

Call is for those who wish to be considered as singers first. Please prepare 32 bars of a contemporary musical theatre song that shows range and acting ability. Bring sheet music in the correct key; accompanist is provided, but may not transpose. No a cappella singing or singing to playback. No dancing at this call.

Please bring a picture & resume, stapled back-to-back.
