In the Summer of 2012, the National Youth Music Theatre will be collaborating with the American musical theatre composer, lyricist and playwright, JASON ROBERT BROWN, who has been hailed as “one of Broadway’s smartest and most sophisticated songwriters since Stephen Sondheim” (Philadelphia Inquirer).
Songs for a New World will be directed by Sarah Redmond with choreography by Cristian Valle at The Bridewell Theatre, London, in July/August.
With an emotionally charged score of contemporary pop/rock theatre music, Songs For A New World takes us from the deck of a 1492 Spanish sailing ship to a ledge 57 stories above Fifth Avenue through 16 unique songs, each telling its own story: how to survive in a new set of circumstances – a new world – even against seemingly overwhelming odds. “It’s about one moment”, says Jason Robert Brown. “It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice, or take a stand, or turn around and go back.” These are the stories and characters of today; these are the songs for a new world.
