Southport Performing Arts Conservatory (SPACE) will conduct auditions for their Children’s Choir at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012, at 3433-37 W. Peterson Ave., Chicago. Singers chosen to perform with SPACE’s Children’s Choir will prepare for a number of upcoming performances including a December 2, 2012, performance at the Akoo Theatre (formerly the Rosemont Theatre) before an audience of more than 4,000. This performance precedes the annual Chicago performance of “The Great Russian Nutcracker” by the esteemed Moscow Ballet.
Interested students will audition in small groups where they will be taught a simple melody along with vocal and rhythmic exercises. Additionally children should prepare a short song. Directors are looking for children who love to sing, have a pleasant vocal quality and can match pitch. Each audition will last 15-20 minutes.
