Drag Performer
Lynn Nottage and Tony Gerber’s Market Road films are looking for one Afro.
American male actor for a short fictional documentary film about a fictional black
actress of the 20’s, Vera Stark. The film will be used in conjunction with Nottage’s
play, By the Way, Meet Vera Stark.
The Story:
His mother was a performer in the Follies Bergere in the 70’s and Vera Stark, a black actress from the heyday of film, lived with them for a short time during his childhood. The man is now a drag performer. We meet him before a performance at the club. He is in full drag regalia. He tells us about his encounter of Vera as he transforms into Vera, one of his characters.
Actor:
Male: 40’s-50’s. Fierce. He is just as lively and fun out of drag as in. He was obsessed with Vera as a child, an obsession that has him now performing as her. Note: all actors for this role must work as a drag queen or have comparable drag experience. You will be doing your own makeup and consult on hair.
Production:
This will be a one day shoot, over a couple of hours. There is a script for guidance, but doesn’t have to be completely used. The actors should be able to improvise funny language.
Paid gig, Union/Non-Union.
