On April 16 and 17, Houston Grand Opera will hold auditions for solo dancers for a production of the classic musical SHOW BOAT to be staged during HGO’s 2012-13 season. SHOW BOAT will be directed by Francesca Zambello, choreographed by Michele Lynch, and conducted by Patrick Summers.
Caucasian Dancers – 3 men and 3 women will be engaged.
Interested candidates should have FULL AVAILABILITY to be called up to 30 hours per week during the period of December 13, 2012 through February 9, 2013. Candidates should have ballet, musical theater, and partner work training. Men should also be prepared to demonstrate any specialty skills they may have, such as juggling and/or riding a unicycle. Selected dancers will be compensated at the rate of $1,000 per week for the production period. Candidates should reserve the entire day of April 16, 2012 for auditions and call-backs.
African-American Dancers – 1 man and 1 woman will be engaged.
HGO has already engaged the African-American dance ensemble who performed this production previously in Chicago, and selected dancers will serve as understudies/alternates for this ensemble. Interested candidates should have FULL AVAILABILITY to be called up to 30 hours per week during the period of December 31, 2012 through February 9, 2013. Candidates should have ballet training, company work, and musical theater training. Selected dancers will be compensated at the rate of $1,000 per week for the production period. Candidates should reserve the day (until 2:00pm) of April 17, 2012 for auditions.
