Stage One Theatre Company will be presenting Lionel Bart’s masterpiece OLIVER! this coming September at the Brookside Theatre, Romford.
The perfect family musical, based on Charles Dickens’ classic Oliver Twist, OLIVER! is the story of a young orphan boy who wanted “more.” From the orphanage to the mean streets of London, the
ever-optimistic Oliver strives to survive through thick and thin meeting such memorable characters as Nancy, Fagin, Bill Sikes and the Artful Dodger along the way.
Dramatic, engagingly powerful and ultimately uplifting, OLIVER! is an unforgettable, feel good story of a remarkable boy looking for a place to call home.
The production’s magical score is full of Lionel Bart’s irresistible songs including “Food Glorious Food’, ‘Consider Yourself’, ‘You’ve Got to Pick a Pocket or Two’, ‘I’d Do Anything’, ‘As Long As He Needs Me’, ‘Where Is Love’ and many more..
The production will be staged over 2 weeks:
6th – 8th Sept & 13th – 15th Sept 2012
Rehearsals will start in July and will be held on Monday & Wednesday evenings and Sunday daytimes. (Rehearsal Schedule provided)
Auditions will be held on Sunday 1st July.
Roles Available include:
Oliver Twist – A workhouse boy – Principal role. Vocal Range low A to G. Must be able to sing, act and dance. Playing age – 8 to 12 (no taller than 5ft)
Artful Dodger – Fagin’s brightest pupil; a cheeky pickpocket – Principal role. Vocal Range low B to G. Must be able to sing, act and dance. Strong stage presence. Playing age – 9 to 14 (no taller than 5ft2)
Fagin – A weaselly conman who runs a training academy for young pickpockets – Prinicpal role. Vocal Range A to F. (Baritone). Must be able to sing, act and dance. Playing age – 40 to 70
Nancy – A graduate of Fagin’s academy. Nancy is the girlfriend of Bill Sykes who abuses her yet she professes to stay with Bill as long as he needs her – Principal role. Vocal Range: low F to G (Alto/Belt).Must be able to sing, act, dance and has a heavy vocal role. Playing age – 25 to 35
Bill Sykes – A graduate of Fagin’s academy and a menacing villain in his prime – Principal role. Vocal range C# to D. (Baritone). Strong actor needed. Playing age – 30 to 45
Mr Bumble – A large, pompous and opportunistic man who runs the workhouse. Vocal Range C to A. (Tenor). Must be able to sing and act. Playing age – 40 to 65
Widow Corney – A sharp-tongued domineering widow and the workhouse mistress. Vocal Range D to G (Soprano). Must be able to sing and act. Playing age – 40 to 60
Mr Sowerberry – The undertaker. A creepy, often intoxicated, man who promotes his business by
advertising cheap funerals. Vocal Range C to F. (Baritone). Strong character actor needed.
Playing age – 35 to 65
Mrs Sowerberry – The undertaker’s wife. A creepy domineering woman. Vocal Range C to F. (Alto or Soprano) Playing age – 30 to 60
Mr Brownlow – An established gentleman of wealth. He ends up being Oliver’s grandfather. (May be asked to play chorus parts in other portions of the show). Playing age – 50 to 75
Mrs Bedwin – The Brownlow’s housekeeper. Vocal Range C to B. (Alto or Soprano). (May be asked to play chorus parts in other portions of the show). Playing age – 30 to 65
Orphan/Urchins – Appear at various times throughout the show and must be able to sing, act, and perform simple dance moves. Boys only. Playing age – 8 to 14 (Must be under 5ft5)
Adult Supporting / Chorus roles – Will appear throughout the show which will require strong singing, acting, and dancing as the chorus will participate in “Consider Yourself”, “Oom Pah Pah”, and “Who Will Buy”. In addition, there are several supporting roles that will require strong actors and solo vocals.
