Synopsis:
This is the dream of Nicole Bell, which turns into a nightmare. She dreams of Mamie Till, Emmet Till, Trayvon Martin, Amadou Diallo, Sean Bell and herself in a world that is void of time and structure. We see how their lives, stories, and voices weave together to tell a story of screaming and not being heard. www.outcrytheplay.com
The roles for Nicole, Mamie and Amadou have been filled, casting for the roles of Trayvon Martin and Emmett Till.
Character Breakdown:
Emmett Till
Young teenager, outgoing, precocious, loud. Excited and interested life, yet very naïve. He holds his mother’s opinion in high regard, and is adamant in the thoughts he believes to be true. He loves to have fun, in his opinion life is meant to be lived fully.
Trayvon Martin
A good spirited 17 year old man. He’s laid back, intuitive, listens well, and isn’t afraid to state how he feels about anything. His interests are his girlfriend, football, family, and other things. He is slightly oblivious to the way others view him, and quite confident in himself. Has a lot of swag.
Amadou Diallo
Male, in is early 20’s Jovial, bright, determined and earnest. He is intent on achieving the American Dream and subsequently providing for his family back in Guinea. He loves America, and is resilient despite the way he is treated. He takes us on a journey through laughter and joy as he wrestles with remaining buoyant, despite the fact that he is sinking quickly. (Must be able to do a West African accent)
Mamie Till
Female to play older woman. Mamie is a warrior and enjoys life, she is nurturing and kind, but a force to be reckoned with, stern yet soft. She loves her only son dearly, and goes above and beyond to ensure his comfort and happiness.. We see her reckon with herself and her decision to allow him to leave after she hears the news of his death.
Nicole Bell
A young mother of two, sassy, hip, and powerful. Strong dance background. She is about to marry her high school sweet heart. She is excited to have the wedding of her dreams and finally live the life she’s always wanted. However, it is interrupted, when she learns that her fiancé is murdered hours before her wedding.
Stipend is provided.
