Royal Expressions Contemporary Ballet is searching for emerging choreographers for its upcoming production 31, a dance production based on Proverbs 31 that seeks to empower women through dance. The show will feature women of all sizes, ages, and races. The choreographer is encouraged to use dancers as well as non-dancers in their works. All submissions must relate to the woman described in Proverbs 31 through lyrics and movement. Acceptable dance styles include ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap, and/or hip hop. Choreographers may submit up to 3 works and must have amateur or professional choreography experience to apply. Up to 10 choreographers will be chosen. All choreographers will receive a rehearsal space and a costume allowance. Choreographers will attend an open audition to select dancers for their works and will receive 6 hours of rehearsal time per work. Choreographers within the greater Greensboro area will receive priority consideration, however, other applicants are welcome to apply. The production will take place in May 2014 and will run for 3 times with each choreographer’s work appearing at least twice.
