Late 40’s, Chinese man living in America. Bilingual. Physically and emotionally weakened. Lost his daughter in a fire in China and is plagued by the trauma. Because of the tragedies in his past he has been left with an aversion to human interactions. He meets the friendliness and curiosity of the effervescent 8 year old neighbor-boy, Jack with disdain, but the adventure that Jack leads him on tests his emotional shell and reawakens his will to live.
