A Raisin in the Sun Auditions
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Type: Theater
BENEATHA YOUNGER: Looking for an African
American Woman in her early to mid 20’s to play a
woman in her early 20’s. She represents the thoughts
of a future generation. She opens her mouth, and
speaks her opinion proudly and unapologetically. It
does not matter if others agree or not. She is
beautiful but most importantly, she is a feminist
before the word was created. This is the character
that is also the closest representation to Ms.
Hansberry.
JOSEPH ASAGAI: Looking for an African American
Man in his mid 20’s to early 30’s to play this role.
He is one of Beneatha’s suitors. He is Tall, Dark,
Handsome and “other worldy” (he comes from
Africa). He challenges Beneatha on her thoughts, and
opinions, and the way that she sees the world in
general. It is never mean or sarcastic, but always
stimulating and inviting. He is a respectful young
man who wants to make a difference in the world
somehow.
