Leo’s new film “The Revenant” is about to film in Calgary and having an open call for extras today.
The Leonardo DiCaprio movie will begin production this fall in Alberta and B.C., The movie has been filming in the Santa Fe area but will be moving on to Canada this coming September. They held an open casting call in Santa Fe a month back and this week they are having another at the Marlborough Mall in Calgary.
Alyson Lockwood of Classic Casting will be running the event and has stated that the casting company is seeking good character looks, men with facial hair, native American men and women, people who can ride horses and boys with long hair between the ages of 10 and 18. Also, they are looking for people with interesting characteristics and scars as well as some amputees.
As for how many extras the production would be hiring, the casting director stated that they did not have exact numbers but it was going to be quite a few. The Revenant will begin production in the area on Sept. 29, 2014 and run through the winter and into February 2015.
Classic Casting will be signing up extras for the project today, Aug. 9th at Marlborough Mall (near the food court area) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those interested in getting a small part in the film can come down to the mall to meat with casting directors.
“The Revenant” will be directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu who also is writing the screenplay along with “Vacancy” writer Mark L Smith. The film will star Leonardo DiCaprio and there are rumors that Tom Hardy and Domhnall Gleeson will be joining him in the production. The new Dicaprio film is an adaptation of the Michael Punke novel of the same name. The story is that of a fur trapper who is set on revenge against the men he believes wronged him. “The Revenant” follows a 19th century fur trapper named Hugh Glass, who gets mauled by a grizzly bear. Near death, the terrain makes it impossible for his colleagues to carry him back to their fort. They leave him for dead but he survives and sets out on a treacherous journey to exact revenge on those who betrayed him and left him for dead.
IMDB describes the film as “the 1820s story of a frontiersman, Hugh Glass, who set out on a path of vengeance against those who left him for dead after a bear mauling.” Of course Leonardo will be playing the lead of trapper Hugh Glass.
The film will be produced by Steve Golin, David Kanter and others for New Regency.
