Oprah Winfrey’s “Selma” – Open casting call update

Now casting paid background extras for “Selma” in Alabama & Atlanta

Universal’s feature film “Selma” about MLK is now filming in Atlanta and Alabama (or will be shortly). There are 2 open casting calls coming up in a few days and the date and location for the Montgomery Alabama open casting call for extras has been changed.

The film will be shooting 2 large scenes that will involve a large crowd and are looking to book many hundreds of extras for the scenes. The scenes will be filming on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma and on Dexter Avenue in Montgomery between June 23rd and June 27th.  The production will be needing African American and Caucasian extras between the ages of 17 and 70.

Selma, is a feature film about the civil rights movement and Martin Luther King‘s voting rights campaign. The film depicts the events leading up to and including the non-violent demonstrations of 1965 in Selma, Alabama. In 1965, Martin Luther King led a 54 mile march from Selma to Montgomery Alabama. The L.A. Times reports that Oprah Winfrey will produce the movie for Paramount Pictures and that the film will be directed by Ava DuVernay. Ava DuVernay is the first black woman to win best director at the Sundance Film Festival with her 2012 microbudget indie drama “Middle of Nowhere.”

Alabama residents who want to participate in the film can attend either one of the open calls listed below. Atlanta residents also have a chance to be in the film. Selma Productions, Inc., is looking for 500 extras for the feature film “Selma”, currently in production to be released Spring 2015

To qualify to be an extra on the production you must be between the ages of 17 and 70 years, have a valid government issued ID and the right to legally work in the US. You must be local to the filming area because no travel expenses will be paid and able to work on your feet for 12 to 14 hours a day. You will need to be comfortable working in costume which will be a vintage wardrobe and available for fittings between June 17th and the 20th.

Montgomery, Alabama Open casting call (New Date and Location)

Paramount Pictures and Selma Productions Inc have rescheduled the open call for extras – The new date is June 9 and the event will be held at John Abernathy Auditorium.
