Postcards from Hotel Cassiopeia – a theatre thesis project

Seeking thesis project team and CASTING for the initial THEATRE WORKSHOP of Postcards from Hotel Cassiopeia – a “re-making” of Hotel Cassiopeia, the Charles Mee theatre piece about assemblage artist Joseph Cornell — in Ashland, Oregon

3-week workshop and performances dates:
October 19 – November 9, 2014

CASTING NOTICE:

5 Actors (3 male, 2 female)

“Artist” JOSEPH Cornell – male, age range: 30s – 50s

“A. Artist” / “STARGAZER” (Mee’s Astronomer) – male, age range: over 39

“B. Artist” / “Bachelor” (Mee’s Herbalist) / Brother – male, age range: under 39

“Director” Lillian (Mee’s Pharmacist) / “Director” Leila (end scenes) – female, age range: 50s – 70s+ (timeless wisdom)

“Dancer” / Shopkeeper / Girl – female, age range: 19 – 30s

Interested ACTORS please submit an email expressing interest, audition/interview appointment availability for the time period of September 9th through September 20th, along with headshot/resume attached. Please include schedule conflicts (days and evenings) for the Workshop weeks of October 19 – November 9, 2014 as well as any familiarity with the works of Charles Mee and/or Hotel Cassiopeia. Distance actors unavailable for live auditions may be asked to submit audition piece(s) electronically. Further audition/interview details given upon scheduling appointments. Special arrangements may be considered for AEA actors.

DRAMATURG – This project Dramaturg will work collaboratively with project/workshop performances Director (V. Lee) in aspects of pre-workshop research & planning as well as throughout the 3-week workshop process with the company, culminating in audience education elements.

Dramaturg Start date: mid-September (pre-workshop – distance collaboration options)

STAGE MANAGER & *PRODUCTION ASSISTANT/MANAGER – This PHC (Postcards from Hotel Cassiopeia) Stage-Manager and/or the Production Assistant/Manager will collaborate with Director on project details including:
–workshop scheduling –technical considerations –company operations/logistics

Stage Manager will provide customary duties, including: maintaining contact information of all PHC ‘artists’; update daily schedule as needed; assist the director during the workshop rehearsal process; prepare prompt book; call all dress rehearsals and performances and upholds the artistic integrity of the entire project process.

Production Assistant/Manager position may be combined with other ‘roles’ of the PHC workshop (ie: Stage Manager or ‘Onstage’ running crew artist) and will assist the project director as cooperatively determined.

Start dates: following interview process, no later than October 10,2014
