Less is a one-act play written by a local writer who works with homeless people in St. Louis.

The goal of this play is to educate the community about homelessness. Proceeds will benefit The Bridge.

We are seeking actors who are currently living in a shelter or transitional housing, have been personally affected by homelessness, or are currently working to help homeless people in the St. Louis area.

We will consider actors who are not connected to the homeless community for the non-homeless roles in the play.

Roles to cast:

• Cheri: Female age 25 – 40, recovering addict. Major role, full page of lines.
• Business Man: Male, age 25 – 60. Large, gregarious, non-homeless.
• Mrs. Bridge: Female age 40 – 60. Major but silent role other than one line. Homeless.
• Mary: Female age 30 – 60, kind librarian.
• George: Male age 30 – 50, homeless, intellectual.
• Hateful Library Patron: Female age 30 – 40, snobby, non-homeless.
• Ruthie: Female age 18-20. Major role, full page of lines.
• Janitor: Male 25 – 60.
• Sam: Male age 50+, homeless veteran. Very few lines, mostly silent role.
• Patrick: Male age 25 – 40, social worker, kind.
• Big Sister: Female age 13-16, non-homeless
• Little Sister: Female age 8 – 10, non-homeless
• Alice: Female age 30 – 60, homeless, mentally ill, sings all her lines (not necessarily well)
• Yoga Soccer Moms: Two females age 25-35, fit and upscale
• Music Guy: Male age 16-25, non-speaking role, non-homeless, just struts to music.
• Teen Cheri: Female age 15 – 18, teen version of Cheri, brief intense non-speaking role
• Child Cheri: Female age 7 – 12, child version of Cheri, brief intense non-speaking role
• Extras: Need a few adults to play background characters, homeless, any age.

Auditions are Sunday, January 19, 1:30 – 3:30 at the Cenentary Church, 55 Plaza Square (Olive between 16th & 17th Streets). Auditions will be a cold read, or you may perform a brief, prepared piece of your choice. Most roles are dramatic, though there is some comic relief.

Rehearsals will be Sundays, 1:30 – 3:30, same place.
Performances will be in April (date TBD) Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
