Disney’s “Newsies the musical” is holding auditions for dancers in New York City
Disney’s Broadway stage musical, Newsies, will be holding auditions for both male and female, equity ensemble dancers this coming Sunday. The production is seeking professional dancers for the national tour. Specifically, the show is seeking adult dancers that are able to play 16 to 22 years old. Casting directors Telsey + Company will be holding the open call this weekend at Pearl Studios. Please see the casting notice below for further details.
Disney’s Newsies is the Winner of the 2012 Tony Awards® for Best Score and Best Choreography. The musical combines explosive music, high-energy dance, lots of high jumps and an inspirational success story set in New York City. Newsies The Musical is produced by Disney Theatrical Productions with a story that is inspired by the Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City.
Disney’s show is based on the 1992 film produced by Walt Disney Pictures and directed by choreographer Kenny Ortega. The Disney film starred Christian Bale, David Moscow, Bill Pullman, Robert Duvall and Ann-MargretIt and is based on the New York City Newsboys Strike of 1899.The musical is set in New York City during the 1890s. In the story the “Newsies” are the homeless kids who hustle newspapers to make ends meet.

Bring sneakers, tap shoes and comfortable clothing.
Bring picture and resume.
Please come ready to dance for all of the above auditions with sneakers, tap shoes and comfortable clothing. You will be asked to sing afterwards if kept, so please prepare the cut of the songs “CARRYING THE BANNER” and “ONCE AND FOR ALL” which can be found and downloaded from “Dancer Audition” page on the website. You should also bring sheet music for another song that you sing well, in the appropriate key. A contemporary musical theatre song is preferable. A piano accompanist will be provided. Please also bring a photo or snapshot and resume stapled.
MALE DANCERS
Males, to play 16-22, all ethnicities. Strong, technically trained dancers with a knack for physicality. Think Michael Kidd. Should also tap and sing very well. Possible principal understudy assignments. ENSEMBLE
FEMALE DANCERS
Females, to play 16-22, all ethnicities. Should move well, but most importantly tap and sing very well. Possible principal understudy assignments. ENSEMBLE
