The Florida Project is a quirky indie comedy about the unlikely friendship between Peter Carter, the manager of a small camera store, and a disembodied head. It’s a story with heart and nostalgia about letting go of the things you’re holding to too tightly.
Characters:
Peter Carter – Male, mid 40s, all ethnicities considered, contingent on other casting. A nervous man who doesn’t like to take risks, Jack Lemmon type. Recently separated from his wife. Assistant manager at a camera shop. Has trouble letting go of things.
Carolyn Carter – Female, early to mid 40s, all ethnicities considered, contingent on other casting. A realtor by profession, composed and well put together, with a biting wit. Separated from her husband Peter. Both of them are trying to put things back together.
Molly Carter – Female, 16, all ethnicities considered, contingent on other casting. Intelligent, witty, studious, and mature for her age. She’s trying to assert her independence as an adult, but her father still sees her as a little kid.
Bill – Male, 30-60, all ethnicities considered. An engineer and maintenance man, and very intelligent, but perhaps lacking in some of the social graces. Congenial, but tends to be a touch too direct when talking to others.
Larry Carter – Male, 60-85, all ethnicities considered, contingent on other casting. Steve’s father. Friendly and congenial to a fault. A midwesterner transplanted to Orlando.
Vikki Carter – Female, 60-85, all ethnicities considered, contingent on other casting. Steve’s mother. Gracious, A midwesterner transplanted to Orlando.
C.E.O. – Male, 60s, white. No nonsense and business like.
Margery – Female 40-80, all ethnicities considered, irascible and unhelpful, but effective at her job. Speaks in a monotone which makes it difficult to tell when she’s being sarcastic.
John – Male, 60s, all ethnicities considered. Seasoned executive, who at this point can say anything he wants.
Tom – Male, Late 20s to early 30s, all ethnicities considered. Clean-cut and corporate.
