The Fantasticks Casting Call

Evening Star Productions is casting the following roles for The Fantasticks . The auditions will take place on Saturday, February 28th at 1:30 PM with callbacks to follow. The audition will take place in Uptown Charlotte.
Character Breakdown
(Casting will be color blind. All ethnicities are encouraged to come out. Age restrictions will be relaxed slightly as well for the casting call)
THE NARRATOR
(EL GALLO)
A rakish, handsome, sophisticated gallant and narrator of the show. He is warm, cordial, and inviting to the audience, but has his own darker moments. He aids the performers in orchestrating the story.
Male, 30-50 yrs old
Range: Ab2 – G4
THE GIRL (LUISA)
A button-maker’s young and pretty daughter, she is a romantic idealist who falls in love with Matt. She is naïve, honest and tender.
Female, 15-25 yrs old (to play 16 year old)
Range: B3-B5
THE BOY (MATT)
An innocent, young man who is searching for love and adventure. A bright guy, but naive and even foolish at times, approaching situations with a false bravado.
Male, 18-25 yrs old (to play a 21 year old)
Range: A2 – G4
THE BOY’S FATHER (HUCKLEBEE)
A former boisterous navy man and meticulous gardener who fakes a fight with Bellomy in hopes of getting their children to fall in love.
Male, 40-60 yrs old (depending on casting needs, may cast outside of age bracket).
Range: A2 – F#4
THE GIRL’S FATHER (BELLOMY)
A fastidious button-maker and also a picky gardener who fakes a fight with Hucklebee in hopes of getting their children together.
Male, 40-60 yrs old (depending on casting needs, may cast outside of age bracket).
Range: A2 – F#4
THE MUTE
A speechless presence who watches, acts as the wall, and deals with props; the “invisible” stage assistant. Should be able to easily assist in the story or fade into the background unnoticed.
Male or Female, 20-50 yrs old, non-singing role. (depending on casting needs, may cast outside of age bracket).
THE ACTOR (HENRY)
An aging, over-the-top Thespian who specializes in reciting Shakespeare, he is a commedia clown; his world is the stage and he knows no other reality.
Male, 50-70 years old, speaking role (depending on casting needs, may cast outside of age bracket).
THE MAN WHO DIES (MORTIMER)
Henry’s goofy sidekick and another former actor who specializes in stage deaths. A commedia clown, his world is the stage and he does not live in reality.
Male, 30-50 yrs old, speaking role (depending on casting needs, may cast outside of age bracket).
If you wish to be considered for a role, please submit your resume in .pdf form to jobs@eveningstarpro.com no later than Saturday, February 14th, 2014. Please use the subject: Fantasticks Casting. There is no need to specify which role you would like as we will be casting you as you will best serve the production.
What to Bring: A song in the style of the character in which you wish to be considered for (please cut song down to a minimum of 16 bars and a maximum of 32) an accompanist will be provided for you at time of audition. *
*If you only wish to be considered for a speaking/non-singing role, please indicate that in the body of your e-mail. You will be contacted later to attend the call back session.
More information will be forthcoming with callbacks, but it is possible that you will need to return back that same day starting around 5:30 PM. Please make necessary arrangements in the event that you are invited back. You will be updated you with more information if that is the case.
