Chicago Columbia College Student Film “The Spot”

The Spot

Location: Chicago

Type: Student Films

‘The Spot’ is a Graduate Student’s Thesis project done for the BFA at Columbia College Chicago.
The film is about a refugee family that has just arrived in the United States for a fresh start to a new life. They are settled in an apartment through an organization that helps Refugees settle in and acquire the right documentation to allow their stay.

The story focuses on their start to a new life and the problem they face once they find out it is almost impossible to bring in their third child from the war-struck domestic land to the United States with the rest of the family.

CHARACTERS

Mother: The mother is a female in the range of 30-50 years old. She must be able to speak fluent Arabic. The mother is like any other mother in the world, she loves her children and her family. She somewhat nags on her husband for his failure to do the right things for the family. She is repressive and demanding.

Father: Age range is 30-50 years old and must be able to speak Arabic.
The father is a more passive type of character. Like the mother, he wants nothing else but happiness and love for his own children. The father is a more understanding person than the mother. This makes him appear to be more passive, especially when they come to face the hardship of not being able to bring their third daughter to the new country due to documentation issue. The father is a kind and loving person in a nutshell.
