To Whom It May Concern follows Harry, who identifies himself as a woman and often goes by the name “Harriet.” He’s very unhappy with his life, alone, and extremely insecure about the way he looks. Harry soon finds himself bonding with his young neighbor, Amelia. She sympathizes with Harry because they both cannot truly be themselves. Her mother is constantly disappearing for days on end and disapproves of her tomboyish fashion whenever she is around. Harry and Amelia realize that together they can get passed their insecurities and struggles. But what will happen when Amelia’s mother finds her with Harry? Will Amelia lose the new found stability or will Harry stand up to her mother and be the family she always needed?

Characters:

HARRY “HARRIET” BAXTER

30-40’s. Male.
Harry was born a boy and grew up believing he was truly a girl. He had a sister, whom he was always jealous of because she was an actual girl and he wasn’t. Harry’s parents were not very supportive of how he identified himself and treated him unfairly. Harry becomes somewhat aggressive when he’s made fun of. He pushed his sister down the stairs once during an argument. He was kicked out of his home at age 20 when He came out to his parents. From then on he had to struggle with making a living and being unable to truly be herself. Harry is close with her young neighbor, Amelia. Amelia knows of Harry’s true nature. He likes spending time with her and sympathizes with her because Amelia is a tomboy.

AMELIA

10-15 years old. Female.
Amelia is a tomboy, smart and witty. She knows about Harry’s true nature and doesn’t get bothered by it. She accepts and acknowledges that Harry is a woman. She even helps Harry put make up on. Amelia’s is constantly left alone by her mother, Brittany. She has no father and often takes care of herself. She frequently visits Harry and spends time with him/her.

BRITTANY

Mid 20’s – early 30’s. Female.
Brittany is very white-trash, she had Amelia at a young age and wasn’t fully prepared to be a mother. She visibly uses drugs and is very aggressive and rude. She doesn’t like Harry and is disturbed by Amelia liking to dress like a tomboy.
