Aesoped! The Musical

Get Ready to See Classic Fables Turned on Their Heads In AESOPED! THE MUSICAL
Currently seeking triple threat actors from the ages of 16-28 to audition for a New Musical, Aesoped! The Musical: In the vein of Seussical, Tommy the Tortoise must learn to value his own self strength and skill in order to put Hare and his gang of friends in their place. This show has something for everyone, along with a stellar score by Louis A. Josephson, and a refreshingly funny and endearing book by Justin iachetti. Currently, we are looking to cast a workshop production of the show that rehearses Feb.-Mar. in Central Jersey, leading up to a minimalist performance for backers and industry professionals on a date TBD. Throughout the rehearsal process, scenes may be altered, songs may be changed, and the show will adapt and evolve. It’s your opportunity to truly originate a role.
Auditions are by appointment on Sunday, January 17, 2016 (12-6 p.m.) at Rider University. If this date does not work, casting personnel can make exceptions.
Please prepare a 32-bar cut of an upbeat song in the style of shows like “Newsies,” “Seussical,” or “Catch Me if You Can.”
Callbacks will be held on Sunday, January 24.
Available Roles:
Tommy (Lead): Male, 16-30, All Ethnicities
vocal range: baritone/lyric baritone. The protagonist; a sensitive victim of bullying, and yet he doesn’t allow it to get him down.
Hare (Lead): Male, 16-30, All Ethnicities
vocal range: tenor/rock tenor. The antagonist; a character with a real Adonis complex, he will stop at nothing to stay at the top.
Olly (Lead): Female, 16-30, All Ethnicities
vocal range: mezzo soprano/soprano; a neurotic owl who tends to live in her own world, made up of the characters from her books.
Aesop (Lead): Female, 16-30, All Ethnicities
vocal range: alto/mezzo soprano. Not the original Aesop, but one of his descendants, given the job to guard and tell the stories.
Mama Tortoise (Supporting): Female, 18-35, All Ethnicities
vocal range: alto/mezzo. Tommy’s mother, who is kind of the stereotypical Jewish mom; she cares deeply for her son.
Rooney, Reeter, and Skint (aka the Gang) (Supporting): Males & Females, 16-30, All Ethnicities
vocal range: male voices and altos. Hare’s gang of delinquents, they terrorize most of the characters in this play.
Miss Foxelle (Supporting): Female, 18-35, All Ethnicities
vocal range: alto/mezzo. A schoolteacher with lots of soul, who uses her past experiences as teaching points for her students.
Ensemble (Chorus / Ensemble): Males & Females, 16-30, All
