Major Roles:
[Jeremy Newman] 31 years old (20-40 range) A flustered, bright, passionate coffee shop owner. He’s inquisitive yet scared at events out of his control yet understands the value of teamwork.
[Jackie Newman] 30 years old (20-40 range) wife of Jeremy. Always looking to please and help Jeremy with his dreams and ambitions. She’s naturally kind, hard-working, eager to lend a hand, yet slightly edgy. Her view of what helps and what doesn’t is easily swayed.
[Tod Colby] 32 (20-40 range) Best friend of Jeremy. Secretly in love with Jackie and is frustrated at the lack of reciprocation. Somewhat shady in demeanor. He is cunning, charming, and a romantic.
[Old Man] 70-90s (60+ range) Tries mounting a case against Jeremy’s shop by pretending to trip. Evil mastermind at heart and demeanor, though not necessarily in appearance.
[Kitty Maxwell] 50s (40-60s range) A street smart, robust, and hardened bookseller. She is kind at heart, but actively gives herself a provocative character and demeanor. She is poor and unenterprising yet gets by reselling books illicitly.

The story:
Dark Roast is a dark comedy about a coffee shop owner, named Jeremy, who tries to avoid legal trouble when a customer trips and falls in his store. But things get complicated when he finds out it’s all a plot by a rival coffee shop. Now Jeremy must defend his coffee shop from permanent closure. Along the way, he must learn that not everyone is how they seem and that you have to be careful who you trust.
Both in-person and video auditions accepted. Times and dates are flexible. Filming occurs mid-July. Non-paid student film.
