Open Auditions for Lead Role in NBC Holiday Special “The Wiz” in NYC

Open call has been announced for the NBC Christmas special “The Wiz” Live.

NBC is producing their annual holiday special for TV and this year it’s going to be “The Wiz“. The role of Dorothy, which was originally played by Dianna Ross is up for grabs. The show is looking for an extraordinary singer for the musical holiday show. The network produces a holiday special every year which airs around Christmas time. Last year, they did “Peter Pan Live” which starred Christopher Walken.

The talent search is on for an extraordinary singer to play the lead role of Dorothy in a recreation of the hit musical “The Wiz” for NBC. Singers wishing to apply better start practicing their songs because auditions are coming up in a few weeks and talent applying will be required to sing a song from the musical. Those songs where originally sung by legends Dianna Ross and Michael Jackson, so the bar is set really high.

Casting directors for NBC at Telsey & Company,  are holding open auditions for the lead role of Dorothy.

Seeking:

Dorothy, a female African American singer / actress that can telll a story with her voice. Must be 18 and over, mature, with youthful energy.

The original Broadway musical starred legend Dianna Ross as Dorothy and Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow…… When Harlem schoolteacher Dorothy, played by Ross,  tries to save her dog from a storm, she’s miraculously whisked away to an urban fantasy land called Oz. After accidentally killing the Wicked Witch of the East upon her arrival, Dorothy is told about the Wiz, Richard Pryor, a wizard who can help her get back to Manhattan. As Dorothy goes in search of the Wiz, she’s joined by the Scarecrow, played by Michael Jackson, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion. The original show premiered in October 24, 1978. It was directed by Sidney Lumet with a screenplay written by Joel Schumacher.

Auditions will be held June 6th, 2015 – 10 am – 2 PM.

Sign in for the auditions will begin at 9 am.

Telsey + Company at 311 43rd street, 10th floor, New York, NY 10036.

Talent interested in auditioning must come prepared to sing parts of “Home”, “Ease on Down the Road” or “Be a Lion”.

Songs will be sung a capella. Talent must come with a copy of their resume and bring a picture that they could leave with the casting directors.

    These auditions Are on the 9th…NOT the 6th.

      The CD’s information does say the 6th. I do not know of any changes. Where are you getting the 9th?

    Also, the storyline of the play is different from the movie. Dorothy in The Wiz on Broadway more closely resembled Judy Garland’s Dorothy…she was not an adult and it was not set in Harlem. From other articles it seems NBC is doing the original, not the movie.

    No, the FILM version of the original Broadway production starred these people.

      Yes, I was about to post that correction myself. The original Broadway play starred Stephanie Mills who will play Aunt Em in the upcoming production (Yay!!).
