Open Auditions for NBC’s “The Wiz” Coming to Los Angeles

NBC will be putting on a production of “The Wiz” as their holiday special this year and there is an open casting call / auditions for the lead role of Dorothy.

The talent search for an extraordinary singer to star as Dorothy continues and will be coming to Los Angeles. Last month the show’s casting directors held an open call for singers in New York City, this month, they will be in L.A. on the 20th. Singers who wish to be considered for the lead role may attend the audition in person on the 20th. Appointments are not required. They are specifically looking for an African American singer between the ages of 18 and 27 to play Dorothy.

NBC announced back in March that “The Wiz”  will air on December 3rd. The network has produced a holiday special for the last 2 years and “The Wiz Live!”  will be it’s 3rd such special.   “The Sound of Music Live!,”  starring Carrie Underwood was their first such special and was a huge success. Last year, they did “Peter Pan Live” which starred Christopher Walken with  Allison Williams playing the title role. This year…. it could be you in the lead as Dorothy.

According to Variety, “The Wiz Live!”  will be co-produced by Cirque du Soleil’s new stage theatrical division. After the television event, the musical will make its Broadway revival for the 2016-17 season, also presented by Cirque du Soleil.

According to the casting notice, singers must prepare to sing one of the songs from the show. At the auditions, casting directors will be expecting a capella versions of “Home”, “Ease on Down the Road” or “Be a Lion”.

Casting directors for NBC at Telsey & Company, are holding open auditions for the lead role of Dorothy.

Seeking:

Dorothy, a female African American singer / actress that can tell a story with her voice. Must be 18 and over, mature, with youthful energy.

Talent interested in auditioning must come prepared to sing parts of “Home”, “Ease on Down the Road” or “Be a Lion”.

Songs will be sung a capella. Talent must come with a copy of their resume and bring a picture that they could leave with the casting directors.
