William Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” follows its heroine Rosalind as she flees persecution in her uncle’s court dressed as a boy. Accompanied by her cousin, Celia and the court fool, Touchstone, they journey to the Forest of Arden looking for Rosalind’s banished father. In the forest, they meet Orlando, on the run from a murderous older brother. Orlando, already in love with Rosalind from a previous meeting, is set on by the disguised Rosalind to pretend she is his “very own Rosalind.”
In the forest, they encounter a variety of memorable characters, most notably the melancholy traveler, Jaques, who speaks one of Shakespeare’s most famous speeches: “All the world’s a stage.”
