Philadelphia area Graduate Thesis Film – Working Title: The Bustling at a Late Night Carnival

The Bustling at a Late Night Carnival tells a late coming-of-age story of a newly-arrived Taiwanese girl’s exploration who comes to America with an imagination, but comes to find out she is in the midst of a riotous festivity with the carneys. In this exploitative system where everyone struggles to survive, her inexperience leads her to betray her colleagues and becomes outcasted. The film centers on her attempt to fight against the stereotypes and come to terms with the understanding of her own image.

Character BIOS

Andrea/ Female/ 19 / Taiwanese
(The character needs to partially speak in a Taiwanese accent [Mandarin])
Andrea is a Taiwanese student, who majors foreign literature in a well-known university. She comes to America for an adventure, but finds out the reality is beyond her imagination.

Tania/ Female/ 30 / Mexican
(The character needs to speak Spanish)
Tania works very hard and is sometimes quite impatient, but she doesn’t really care about what other people think of her.

Julio/ Male / 25 / Mexican
(The character needs to speak Spanish)
Julio is an energetic charming young man who has lots of street wisdom. He is ambitious and trying to work his way up in the carnival.

Sam/ Male / 40 / Caucasian
Sam is a single father who raises his son in the carnival. He is aloof at the first glance, but soft at heart.
