Satirical Rom-Com, How to be Bitter is a short ironic rom-com about a positive DMV worker caught in the middle of a very bitter love triangle.
Project Description:
For Dennis every day is a sunny day, even the stormy ones. He wakes up to his dog, Frodo, who doesn’t have a particular fondess for him, though Dennis loves him all the same. He greets the rude bus driver with a friendly smile. Goes to work at the DMV, the epicenter for bitterness where he gets to see his crush, Karen, the office flirt, who pays no heed to Dennis’s existence. One day, Dennis decides he’s had enough and wants to win over Karen’s affection. So, he enrolls the help of his co-worker, Sarah, who has secret feelings for Dennis, but has never told him how she feels. She begrudgingly helps Dennis using a multi-step program on How to Be Bitter, which ultimately sabotages his chances with Karen and unexpectedly puts his job in jeopardy. From this experience, Dennis realizes the valuable lesson that all you need to be happy is to be yourself.
For casting it is more important that the actors fit the characters over the physicality of the roll.
Roles:
Dennis: Male, early 20’s, positive, upbeat, energetic, world loving young man who works at the DMV of all places. Nothing can get him down.
Hilda: Female, 30+, A force to be reckoned with. Large and in charge. Aggressive bus driver who is hard around the edges
Sarah: Female, Early to mid 20’s, Mentor to Dennis but also has secret romantic feelings for him. Sarah is bitter about Dennis’s feelings for Karen and tries to sabotage their relationship though out the film.Dennis’s coworker at the DMV
Karen: Female, Early to mid 20’s, eye candy of the film. The embodiment of bitterness. Dennis is madly intoxicated by her. Dennis’s coworker at the DMV.
