CASTING for the roles of GINA & MAY
Over the course of Chinese New Year, a Daughter must put her own beliefs aside, and come to accept her Mother’s demands even if it contradicts what she stands for.
When Gina come’s home to see her recently divorced Mother, May for Chinese New Year, tension between the two quickly arises from the nature of their relationship. May, who is extremely superstitious wants a successful New Year. She demands Gina to put on a show by wearing a very specific dress for the Chinese New Year Party. Gina, stubborn in her belief of owning self identity, does not like her Mother’s materialistic views. But when Gina takes it too far, she self reflects and feels tremendous guilt.
It’s a coming of age story about the complex nature of Mother/Daughter relationships. Gina and May absolutely cannot get along, but what Gina realizes at the end is that she will never be able to teach her Mother her views. But what they share in common is mutual love.

Characteristics: stubborn in her beliefs, good intentioned, loves her Mother, May despite their history of domestic violence. She must find a way to put her differences aside and come to differences with her Mother. MUST BE SAG – Mandarin speaking is preferred.
-Role: MAY
Asian / 45 – 60
Characteristics: middle aged women who recently has been divorced, has strong beliefs of superstition. She wants this Chinese New Year to be perfect so she will have good luck for the year. She wants her Daughter to behave, and so as she says. But she slowly realizes her Daughter will not budge. But she does not give up. MUST BE SAG – Mandarin speaking is preferred.
