Nottingham Renaissance Faire Cast Auditions
Location: Farmington, Missouri
Type: Festivals
Age Requirements: All members of the Nottingham Faire Players cast must be a minimum of 16 years of age by October 21, 2017. There are two performances that require the cast to be at least 18 years of age. Younger children may audition as part of a group only if the child’s parent is part of the cast.
What is Nottingham Renaissance Faire Looking For?
Nottingham Renaissance Faire (NRF) seeks individuals who are willing to spend each day of the NRF inhabiting a new persona in order to not only entertain the patrons, but to make the patrons feel as if they have stepped back in time. You must be willing to get into character and stay in character from the moment the patrons begin to arrive to the moment the gates close. Create a character, give your character a name, and when you arrive at the audition, put that character on, wear it with pride and be ready to show us how you would engage with an audience of 21st-Century folks.
?
There are several different types of entertainers that Nottingham Renaissance Faire seeks:
?
Players: The Nottingham Faire Players are part of the stage acting crew. You will be learning lines and performing acts on a stage in front of real, live 21st-Century people. Stage acts are short in duration and will often involve audience interaction and participation.
?
Street Crew: The street crew is in costume for the duration of the NRF and may interact with the NRF’s patrons. If you wish to audition for the street crew specifically, we will want to see what type of performance you will bring to the NRF. Use your best English accent, show us what you can do and how you will interact with NRF patrons.
?
Musicians: Do you play the bagpipes? Do you play the violin? How about a harp? Perhaps a lute or a flute? If you are a musician or a group of musicians that wish to play for NRF patrons, we would love for you to show us what you can do. Bring your instrument to the audition! Established musical groups are welcome!
?
Vocal Talent: Do you have a talent for belting out pirate tunes? Do you know some period lyrics and have a voice that will make the patrons stand up (or sit if they are weary) and listen? We will want to hear it!
?
Dancers: Individuals or troupes may audition. Although not specifically historic to Renaissance era, belly dancing troupes are welcome to audition.
?
Magicians: If you have a talent for making rabbits jump out of a slice of blackbird pie … oh wait, that’s not what we mean (or is it?) Magicians are welcome to audition. Be prepared to showcase short, small prop bits that could be performed in the street. If you have a full-length show that you are willing to prepare (full length = 20 to 30 minutes), let us know, we may have room for you on your own stage.
?
Individuals may schedule a general audition to be cast where we need you. If you have a special talent, please let us know during the audition.
?
Group Auditions may also be scheduled. NRF is seeking talented groups that provide a unique flair for the faire. Know any great period related or pirate-style songs? Do you team juggle? Do you have a comedy act? Write in your special group talent in the audition scheduling form.
Audition Schedule for October 22 and 23, 2016:
Saturday October 22 – 8 am – Noon – 1 pm – 6 pm
Sunday October 23 – 8am – Noon – 1 pm – 6 pm
How to Schedule an Audition Time:
Click on the Audition Reservation Link Here. Complete the reservation form and Submit the form. You will receive an email that contains your audition date and time. That email will arrive within a week of submitting your form.
Should all audition times be reserved, you will be notified that you may attend the auditions on stand-by. We will allow stand-by auditions to take place after all scheduled auditions have completed for the day, as time permits. If you receive a stand-by notification, you should plan to arrive between 4 and 5 pm on Saturday and/or Sunday. Stand-by auditions are not guaranteed and will be allowed only as and if time permits. It is a good idea, if you plan to audition, to submit a reservation early.
What to Bring to the Audition:
A head-shot (recent photo of your face is fine)
A Photo ID – Must include a date of birth OR A Scanned copy of your ID – 8.5” x 11” white paper only please.
A resume that includes your performance history and any talent training you have had.
A smile!
?
You need not have prior experience in the arts to audition. Auditions are open to all that meet age requirements. We will perform background checks on all selected talent.
What to Expect the Day of the Audition:
Be prepared to spend at least two hours at the audition location. Arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled time. If you are not on location and in the audition pit at the time of your scheduled audition, the audition will be forfeited and we will move on to the next scheduled audition.
Upon arrival, visit the reservation station to check-in. NRF will keep your performance resume, your photo and the copy of your ID.
You may be performing in front of several people – this is so that everyone involved will have the ability to view your skills so that a determination is accurate. Worry not, they are harmless, and they want to see what you can do.
You will be called upon by a NRF helper who will verify your identity and then escort you to the audition area.
Most of all, have fun. We are looking for personality as well as talent. Our goal is to make a spot for everyone that attends the auditions although this statement is not a guarantee.
What to Expect After the Audition:
NRF organizers will discuss your talents and where the best location may be for your talents. The cast list will be circulated via email on November 5, 2016. If you are chosen as a cast member, you must sign the acceptance form by no later than November 12, 2016. If you choose not to participate after being selected for the cast, no further opportunities will be provided for the 2017 NRF. You may audition again for 2018 festivities.
Once we have received your confirmation email, a package will be prepared and sent to you via USPS mail. The package will contain your rehearsal information, costuming information, and other important requirements to take part in the 2017 NRF Cast.
2017 Rehearsal Schedule:
Rehearsals begin in May 2017. You will be required to attend all rehearsals in order to maintain your position in the Nottingham Faire Players cast.
Actual Dates of Rehearsals will be given in the information packet.
Costuming:
NRF Cast will be required to provide their own costume. Should special character costumes be required for any character, NRF will provide you with all of the information you will require, including patterns and materials information, along with contact information for local seamstresses.
?
If you wish to attend the Audition in costume, please feel free!
All costumes must be period specific, and if cast in a specific stage performance, costumes will need to be approved before allowed on stage. We will do our best to work with you for costuming needs.
