Sisterhood (Transgender Short Film)
Location: San Francisco, CA
Type: Student Films
SYNOPSIS:
Three trans women, and best friends, document a year in their lives with nothing but each other and handheld camera. Set against the complicated backdrop of a rapidly changing San Francisco, their film project finds them navigating love, loss, and forgiveness. But in each other, they discover the most complex relationship of all- Sisterhood.
Our SHORT FILM sits in the vein of iconic “found footage” films like Kids (Larry Clark), crossed with the quick paced humor of Sex and the City. SISTERHOOD is unprecedented in its portrayal of the inner lives of trans women of the “millennial” generation- and is written and directed by a trans woman herself.
CASTING:
As this is a film about trans women, WE ARE ONLY LOOKING TO CAST TRANS WOMEN.
Again: This is a film about TRANS WOMEN, by TRANS WOMEN. We are only looking to cast fellow Trans Women!
Aside from that, however, there are no requirements as to weight, height, race, etc. This is a film hoping to be an inclusive and diverse representation of trans women. THE AGES WE ARE LOOKING FOR: 21- 28.
Once more, the age we are looking for is 21-28!
( Fun fact: Involved on this project is Cheryl Dunye, legendary independent queer filmmaker. Our writer/ director, Joan, is her protege. )
Roles:
- Brandy – An early to mid-20s TRANS WOMAN. She is a headstrong, defiant performer who isn’t afraid to speak her mind. She sees herself as the star of the show, and frequently finds herself the center of attention (for better, and more often, worse.) She is as fiercely loyal as she is independent.
- Raven – An early 20s TRANS WOMAN. The emotional core of her friend group, Raven is often described by the others as “soft” and “sensitive.” She, however, sees this as a symptom of her too big heart. A slight narcissist.
- Charlie – Charlie is a TRANS WOMAN in her late 20s. As the oldest in the group, Charlie describes herself as “slightly older, slightly wiser.” Often the voice of reason amidst the larger than life personalities of her sisters. While generally calm and reserved, she turns into a lioness when her sisters are threatened.
