Auditions in Wilmington for “Resilience”, a Short Movie

Resilience – Short Film Casting Call

Location: Wilmington, NC

FST-495 Senior Seminar film CASTING CALL in Wilmington, NC.

Auditions for the following roles will be held February 20th (Sat) and 21st (Sun) in King Hall (room 104) at UNCW from 12pm-5pm.

James Antrim (30-40yo male) (Main character, 10sh scenes): An amiable husband and successful author who kills abusive fathers as a form of vigilante justice and for writing inspiration. James is eager to become a father and write another great novel while controlling his secret hobby.

Ellie Antrim (30-35yo female)(2-3 scenes): As James’s loving wife and guiding editor, Ellie is a studious woman with a quick wit and a sharp sense of humor. They have been trying to have a child for a year or two.

Mark Young (late 20s/early 30s, male)(1 scene): Mark is a man that had a child when he was too young and never matured into the role of fatherhood. He is James’s first on-screen victim, and Mark confronts his killer with a brave anger.

Harry Sullivan (60+yo male)(2 scenes): A stern but kind-hearted barber, Harry has been a mentor and father figure to James since he was a child. Harry was a family friend to James’s parents and knows about his secret hobby.

Carol Weaver-Antrim (30s, female)(2 scenes): A flashback character, Carol is James’s loving, strong-hearted mother braving an abusive husband and wasting no time in protecting her son and herself.

Mickey Antrim (30s, male)(1-2 Scenes): A flashback character, Mickey is a handsome college professor who’s recently been fired. He is a sophisticated but abusive husband to Carol and father to James, controlling and verbally cruel to them.

young James Antrim (~10yo, male)(2 scenes): A flashback character, young James is a boy enduring a father who hurts his mother and eventually him. During one of Mickey’s particularly intense assaults on Carol, young James kills his father, and Carol helps them escape judicial punishment.

young Jules McArthur (~10yo, female)(1 scene): Jules is a little girl that James encounters when her father is throwing her toys away and yelling at her in front of their house. She has bruises similar to those of James in his flashbacks, and he promises to help her through this situation.

Ron McArthur (30s, male)(2 scenes): A working man with a wife recovering from addiction, McArthur is Jules’s father and takes a lot of his stress out on her. McArthur is James’s last on-screen victim in the climax of the film.

Please also include photos of yourself (preferably headshots), links to films you’ve acted in, and/or a resume of acting experience. Sam will promptly be in contact with you about further character descriptions and auditioning time slots.
For auditioning, performing a prepared monologue is preferable but not required. You will be given copies of a draft of the script to rehearse for roughly half an hour before coming in.
If you can’t make either of these dates but want to audition, feel free to email a video audition of a monologue/otherwise exemplary acting.
