Broadway Show “Mamma Mia!” Auditions in Chicago

Mamma Mia! national tour, Non-Equity principal role auditions being held in Chicago.

Seeking performers for replacements in the National touring Company. This is a non-Equity audition.

The songs of the pop group ABBA provide the score for this romantic comedy that contrasts the dreams and desires of a young woman about to become a bride with those of her mother, a free spirit of the 70s who never married. “Mamma Mia!” takes place at a taverna on a Greek island. The cast should be quirky and offbeat; we are not seeking obvious musical theater performers. ACTORS who sing and move work best in this show. ALL ARTISTS SHOULD HAVE A ROCK SOUND AND BE ABLE TO MOVE WELL. We are seeking performers of all races and ethnicities for these roles.

Seeking NON-UNION performers only.

Auditions will take place in the following locations. Finalists will travel to NYC for Final Callbacks on Thursday, July 28. Company will provide housing & transportation to/from NYC.

WHAT TO PREPARE:
Please prepare 16 bars of a pop/rock song from the 70s-today (not written for a musical) that is in the style of the show. You may sing from the show. If you would like to prepare sides/music from the show in advance, please click here. Callbacks will be held the following day; if called back, you WILL be asked to prepare material.

SEEKING ONLY THE FOLLOWING ROLES:

PRINCIPALS:

[DONNA] (late 30s-early 40s – the mother of a 20 year old girl) Any ethnicity. Attractive and free-spirited. A former lead singer in a group called “Donna and the Dynamos” who now owns and runs a hotel/casino on a Greek island. A strong feminist who also has a zany and vulnerable side. Principal role. Strong rock belt with a great low range and terrific high belt to C#.

[SAM] (35-45) Male, 5’10” & up. May be Sophie’s father. Left Donna 20 years ago because he was engaged to another woman. Charming, handsome, successful architect. Actor who sings. Principal role. High rock baritone to Ab.

[SKY] (mid-late 20s) Sophie’s fiancé. Athletic, attractive – has given up his life as a successful young businessman in order to make over Donna’s taverna and marry Sophie. Strong rock baritone to Ab. Principal role.

ALSO SEEKING:

[DYNAMO UNDERSTUDIES] (30’s) Females with great pop voices, comedic skills and move well to be in the ensemble and understudy the Dynamos (DONNA, ROSIE). Ensemble roles.
