Baz Luhrman’s new Netflix series, “The Get Down” is now filming in the New York City area.
A new Netflix project about the beginnings of the hip hop music scene is now in production in New York City. The show is looking to cast background actors to play waiters at a 1970s club. There are costumes involved and talent cast must be comfortable in minimal attire while wearing angel wings. This is a rush call and talent will need to attend a costume fitting in the NYC area on the 1st. The scene will be filming on the 9th, 10th and 11th in New York City.
Great Gatsby director, Baz Luhrman is heading up the new Netflix project. The Get Down is described as a musical drama and is being produced by Sony Pictures Television. The series will be available on Netflix sometime in 2016. The show has just released a teaser for the series, check it out below.
Focusing on the early days of hip hop and punk rock music, “The Get Down” is described as “a mythic saga of how New York at the brink of bankruptcy gave birth to hip-hop, punk and disco.” The show is set in 1970s New York City, a time when New York City was cash strapped, plagued with street violence and urban decay. Luhrman has spend the last decade developing the project and it will be Baz Luhrmann’s first TV show. “The Get Down” stars Will Smith’s son, Jadeen Smith. Luhrman is best known for his films “Moulin Rouge,” and “The Great Gatsby”.
