Extras Needed in Torrance (L.A. Area) for AFI Student Short

Location: Torrance / Los Angeles

“The Billboard Queen,” an AFI student short film is looking to cast  extras for the upcoming film shoot in the Los Angeles / Torrance, CA area. Please note that this is a student project and all roles are non-paid.

An aged out local LA celebrity hopes to regain her fame after a TV crew starts making a documentary about her unaware of they’re intentions to exploit her and prime to her past.

JJ’s Audience

JJ’s Show is based on the Wendy Welliams show and Barbara Walter’s interviews. The audience attending the show ranges from 20’s and up. No role is small, we need applicants to act as a crowd and react to the actor’s performance. Directions and adjustments will be given as we give the main

Description:

The audience is split between Charlamagne a local celebrity whose fame peaked in the 80’s, who’s being set up by JJ’s production and Julia Jones talk show host, star of her own show, whose interviews are always emotionally charged.

Audience types:

Tourist visiting LA: These are the type of people who go to TV shows to experience the magic of TV making
JJ’s fans: These people cheer for JJ and are there for the thrill of being close to her
Charlamagne’s fans: They cheer for Charlamagne and believe in her philosophy on living pain free and forever youthful.
Invited audience: These are the network’s people who are paid to fill seats, they cheer and applaud on queue.

The audience plays an important role in the script as it needs to communicate a division between parties. One of the message of the film is a social critic towards media dehumanizing and exploiting people to entertain audiences.

About the production:

Jianna Maarten (Director)

Graduated summa cum laude with departmental honors in Creative Writing: Fiction from Columbia University. She served as executive editor for Columbia’s literary magazine, Quarto. Her story, “Foot Soldiers,” was published in 4×4’s 2015 Spring Issue. Jianna’s first film, DINNER WITH ANA, played at twenty+ film festivals worldwide, winning Best Director. She also production/location-managed features and commercials with Peter Berg, Josh Trank and Kerry David, to name a few. Before jumping behind the camera, Jianna studied Meisner with Ivana Chubbuck.

Pallavi Reddy (Cinematography)

Pallavi is a graduate in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Osmania University in India. She was schooled in Saudi Arabia and has worked as a copywriter and freelance photographer for three years prior to her tryst with cinematography. Since mid-2011, she has been working as an assistant to cinematographers in Bollywood on feature films and television commercials. In the past year, she has also lensed a full-length documentary, two short films and a couple of promotional films for internet advertising.

Rita Toledo (script Editor)

Rita Toledo has a BA in Social Sciences and an MA in Social Communications. The thesis film O SOM E O RESTO, a short written and produced by Rita and directed by André Lavaquial, was selected to Cannes 2008 and San Sebastian 2007, among many other film festivals. Her first script for a feature film, THREE KINGS NIGHT, was produced in 2011, won the Best Actor prize at the Brasilia Film Festival 2012 and opened in theaters in Brazil in June 2013. Since then, Rita has been writing for Brazilian directors and producing documentaries and features at DAZA.Rita Toledo has a BA in Social Sciences and an MA in Social Communications.
