OPEN AUDITIONS: Saturday Feb 27 from 1 – 3pm at Source Theatre in Washington DC:

RoseProse will present VOICES May 12 – 15 and 19 – 22 at Flashpoint Gallery in China Town Washington DC. Come be a part of the world premiere of this new play! VOICES will be directed by actor/writer/director Jared Shamberger.

VOICES is the second installment in the BOXES trilogy. BOXES, written by Ebony Rosemond, has enjoyed previous sold out shows at the Trinidad Theatre Workshop in Trinidad, Source Theatre in Washington D.C., Bowie Center for the Performing Arts in Bowie Maryland and Joe’s Movement Emporium in Mt. Rainier Maryland.
Colorblind casting. Actors of all ethnicities are welcome. For your audition, please prepare a two minute monologue and bring a head shot and resume. Cold readings from the script will be a part of the audition.

AUDITIONS will be held at Source Theatre (1835 14th St NW Washington DC 20001) on Saturday February 27 from 1 – 3pm. Please email thesapphireyellow@gmail.com to schedule an audition appointment.
Rehearsals will be held 3-4 days per week on weekday evenings and weekends beginning in March as determined by the availability of the cast. Not all actors will be called to every rehearsal. All performers and staff will receive a stipend.
VOICES is a full length play. The cast consists of 5 females and 5 males who will play multiple roles.

CAST NEEDED:

  • Ryan: (Male or Female) Group therapy facilitator at fictional mental institution; Vos S.K.C. More concerned with her patients self actualization than the self-centered desires of the patient’s families.
  • Barbara: Exhausted wife and mother. Tired of following societal norms , she is determined to speak her mind and break free.
  • Phil: Barbara’s husband. Stuck in the 1950’s he desperately wants his ‘Leave it to Beaver’ life to continue undisturbed.
  • Barbara’s Mother: Also stuck in the 1950’s. She does not realize that the loving advice she gives to her daughter is harmful to Barbara’s self actualization.
  • Sam: Male aged 35- 45Husband and father. Regrets leaving his career in the church for a more lucrative career in corporate America.
  • IDA: (Male or Female) Aged 22 – 45. The ‘Id’ of Sam. Frustrated with Sam denying his instincts, Ida is determined to speak the truth in order to change the direction of Sam’s life.
  • EGON: (Male or Female) Aged 30 – 45. The ‘Ego’ of Sam. Preoccupied with Sam behaving in an acceptable manner in order to maintain the status quo.
  • Executive: (Male or Female) Aged 30 – 55. Pompous and lacking in integrity. Everyone’s most hated co-worker.
  • Sam’s Son: Male Aged 17 – 22. Rebelling and annoyed with all things parental.
  • Alex: (Male or Female) Aged 35 – 55. The world’s best used car salesman.
  • Shirley: Female aged 21 – 30. Adopted daughter of an absentee mother. Originally from Ghana. Shy, unsure, and suffering from low self-esteem.
  • Chuck: Male aged 40 – 50. Laid back and self actualized professional landscaper.
  • Joseph: Male aged 40 – 45. Successful husband and father. Projects calm confidence to hide his boredom and frustration.
  • Joseph’s Mother: Female aged 30 – 35. Bitter single mother. Leaning on her son as a stand-in husband.
  • Joseph’s Coach: Male aged 40 – 55. Sports fanatic and father figure. Wants the best future for Joseph.
  • Joseph’s Wife: Female aged 40 – 45. Social climber unconcerned with her husband’s happiness.
  • Poet: (Male or Female) Inspirational
  • Sam’s Father: Male aged 55 – 65. A man’s man who does not respect or understand mental illness
  • Female Visitor: Ghanaian woman aged 50 – 65. Mother of a patient at Vos S.K.C.
  • Male Visitor: Ghanaian man aged 50 – 65. Father of a patient at Vos S.K.C.
