A new movie about the space race is about to begin production and casting directors have an open casting call coming up in Atlanta.
Looking for a small role in a feature film? Atlanta area casting directors have announced another open casting call for the film being called “Hidden Figures” in the Decatur, Georgia area.
FOX is working on a new film about African American Mathematicians who helped NASA during the space race. The project currently called “Hidden Figures” is based on “Hidden Figures: The Story of the African-American Women Who Helped Win the Space Race,” published by Harper Collins and written by Margot Lee Shetterly. The book and upcoming movie adaptation is about unrecognized African American women who worked behind the scenes to help launch John Glenn into space and American history. Deadline reported that being considered for the film where top actresses such as Oprah Winfrey, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Taraji P. Henson (“Empire“), who, reportedly, has a lead role in the film. The female lead in FOX’s hit series “Empire” Taraji P. Henson will play the math genius Katherine Johnson.
According to a story in Variety, Henson plays Johnson, a brilliant African-American mathematician who, along with her colleagues Dorothy Vaughn and Mary Jackson, served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in U.S. history, John Glenn’s historic launch into space. The three women crossed all gender, race and professional lines while embarking on the mission. John Glenn flew the Friendship 7 mission in 1962 which was the fist mission to successfully orbit the Earth and return home safely.
FOX has hired Ted Melfi to direct the movie and the script is written by Allison Schroeder. The picture is planned for a January 2017 release in theaters. IMDB does not list the rest of the cast as of yet.
MHC of Atlanta will be holding an open casting call on Saturday, March 19th.
The period film is looking for area locals ages 18 to 80 who would like to make some extra cash working as background actors on the project. The casting team is also looking for folks that have open availability and would be able to fill some small roles in the upcoming film. The movie is a period piece set in the 50s and 60s and talent attending the open call is being asked to come dressed in their best 50s look.

I’ve never done any acting but would love to audition for some background / extra speaking roles. The problem is most everything I see on this site is in ATL. Will there ever be auditions on San Francisco, CA.
