AMC has a new show coming up and holding an open cast call in Austin this coming weekend.
Texas area casting directors at Brock / Allen will be hosting the cast call this coming Sunday, May 22nd in Austin. The show has many small, non-speaking roles to fill and hoping to meet with lots of Austin locals looking to work as paid extras. Currently, the series is interested in adult background actors and will only be meeting with talent 18+ at the event.
The new show is looking for all types and ethnicities and are especially interested in wild west looks, character faces, horse riders, people with ranch experience, folks with archery experience and firearms training. Casting directors need to set up a world of cowboys, Indians, soldiers and oil men living on the frontier during the mid 1800s to the turn of the century. All roles are paid.
AMC is home to quite a few hit TV shows such as “The Walking Dead,” “Walking Dead” spin-off series, “Fear The Walking Dead,” and last years breakout hit “Into the Badlands.” AMC gave a direct to series order for the upcoming 10 episode show, “The Son.” Another AMC series which is expected to be a hit is the upcoming “Preacher” which also got a direct to series order earlier.
“The Son” is a TV adaptation of the Philipp Meyer book which he co-wrote with Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy. The story is a multi-generational saga spanning 6 generations of a Texas oil family as well as America’s birth as a superpower. According to Deadline, Sam Neill (Peaky Blinders) takes the lead of Eli, the patriarch of the McCullough family. Eli had a rough childhood in which he was kidnapped by the Comanche, subsequently, being raised learning many of their brutal ways. Later in life he applies some of the brutality he learned from the Comanche towards his business dealings in the oil rush. His birth marked the day Texas became an independent Republic, getting the nickname “First Son of Texas.”
The show is scheduled to premiere on AMC in 2017 and will be beginning production in Austin next month.
