Down By the River

Now casting various roles on the Independent short film project “Down By the River” that will be filming in Minneapolis, MN. Please note that all roles are non-paid.
“Down By the River” is about a young teenage boy, named Robby, struggling with his state of mind, future, and spirituality. After his father died, Robby’s mother had to marry another man in order to secure a rich future for him. Unfortunately, Robby’s stepfather is abusive and is pushing Robby to get baptized. The film is about sacrifice and how conforming may sometimes be the only way out.
Auditions will be held on June 11, 2016 with filming to begin on July 10, 2016.
Casting the following roles:
[ROBBY] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 17]
Robby is a teenage boy who is stuck between feeling hopeless and numb. After his father died, he has been feeling a sense of purposelessness and loss of direction. He was raised and baptized into Catholicism but now that his mother has married someone new, Robby is being forced to be baptized again as a Baptist. This is painful for Robby because he doesn’t know what he believes anymore, but he doesn’t have a choice.
[MICHAEL] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 38-45]
Michael is a middle aged Oil and Gas Site Supervisor. He is well off and thinks very highly of himself. He was born and raised in North Carolina and took an interest in Robby’s mother, Ranae, when he met her at the diner where she worked. As soon as he saw her, he had to have her. Michael married Ranae and forced her and Robby to convert to Baptist. His ego is large and his need for control is satisfied through Ranae and Robby. Now, he is forcing Robby to be baptized as a means to control him even more.
[RANAE] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AGE: 35-40]
Ranae is a kind-hearted and quiet soul. She fell in love with her first husband, Christopher, at the age of 16. They married at 18 and had their son Robby. Christopher became a firefighter and took care of Ranae and Robby. Ranae believed that she had her fairytale life. She was loved unconditionally and she felt at peace. When Robby was 13, Christopher died in a rescue mission. Ranae was devastated. She knew that she would never feel at peace again. She struggled through depression and worked to put food on the table for Robby. She couldn’t get enough money to keep her house and she didn’t know how she was going to send Robby to college. She was broken. But one day, she met Michael at the diner in which she worked. Michael took an immediate interest In her and Ranae knew at that moment, she was going to have to sacrifice a lot in order to give Robby the life he deserved.
[PASTOR TIMOTHY] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 40-50]
Pastor Timothy is the pastor of a small town Baptist church with a congregation of about 200 people. He is soft spoken and a bit passive. He has been alone for most of his life and takes comfort in his relationship with God. He has known Michael for quite a long time and knows him to be a headstrong man. Pastor Timothy senses that Robby is very reluctant to be baptized and sympathizes with him, but is unable to voice his feelings or come up with any solutions. In the end, he knows that is how it’s supposed to be, that God has a plan set out for Robby even if it seems unsettling at the moment.
