Becky’s New Car
Location: Seattle, WA
Type: Theater
“Becky’s New Car” by Steven Dietz
Directed by Jane Ryan
Produced by Twelfth Night Productions
Becky’s husband is a roofer, her adult son lives in the basement, and her job at the car dealership takes up too much of her time. In Steven Dietz’s surprisingly interactive play, the audience becomes the confidante of a woman facing a mid-life crisis arriving in the form of an attractive older man who buys multiple cars at a time. Assumptions are made, details not fully communicated, and events become chaotic, comic, and serious at the same time. Dietz writes engagingly complex characters; each a gem of humanity textured with absurdity.
