Table Read for SIFF’s First Draft program

What: SIFF Catalyst First Draft live script table read series, now in its fourth year, features unproduced scripts that were finalists in the 2016 Catalyst Screenplay Competition.
This month we’re proud to present Richard Willet’s THE FLID SHOW: A charismatic, belligerent English nightclub singer, born with flipper-like arms because his pregnant mother took the drug thalidomide, believes his deformity will keep him from ever finding love — until he falls for a pretty young American doctor, with intimacy issues of her own, and must confront his own dark past in order to win her.
We’re looking for a minimum of ELEVEN actors. SIX FEMALE and FIVE MALE. Ages range from early teens to mid 50s.

About the Screenwriter:
Richard Willett was born in Hollywood but grew up in Vancouver, Canada. He spent several years as a playwright in New York City before recently returning to Los Angeles. His screenplay THE FLID SHOW was a semifinalist in the 2013 Nicholl Fellowships competition and has been optioned twice, and his screenplay 9/10 was a Nicholl semifinalist in 2011 and an Austin Film Festival semifinalist in 2010. It is currently in development (see www.910movie.com). He has also been a Nicholl quarterfinalist (2014), has second-rounded in Austin ten times, and is working right now with independent producer Yolanda Parks of Kamali Films writing a script based on a true story she has life rights to. Richard’s stage plays have been presented off-off-Broadway and at theaters across the country. Other honors include an Edward F. Albee Foundation Fellowship; a Tennessee Williams Scholarship; grants from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the Arch and Bruce Brown Foundation, and the New York State Council on the Arts (among others); designation as a finalist for the Sundance Screenwriters Lab; and showcasing with a featured screenplay in the IFP Market in New York. His plays TRIPTYCH, 2B, and THE FLID SHOW have all been published by United Stages.
